Car warranties – Why are they so important?
A car warranty is a type of insurance policy that protects the buyer from all or some of the costs incurred if something goes wrong with their vehicle.
How does a car warranty work?
A car warranty typically runs from one to five years and is backed via an independent third party or the car’s manufacturer. In the event of a vehicle malfunction, the warranty will cover all or some of the costs of the resulting repair – but you must ensure you meet the conditions of the warranty.
How much of the repair costs are covered depends on the policy and the claim limit. For example, some will only guarantee the cost of the replacement parts while others will cover the parts and labour fee.
Which parts are covered for repair is also dependent on the individual warranty and usually neither type of policy will cover you for breakage through wear and tear unless in exceptional circumstances.
How does a Toyota car warranty work?
We may be biased but Toyota is one of the most reliable and durable cars on the road, made even more so with our comprehensive warranty package giving you added peace of mind. Touch wood, you won’t need to make use of our warranties, but it’s good to know you can rely on them if you have to.
• 5 year mechanical warranty
Every new Toyota passenger car comes with a five-year, 100,000-mile mechanical warranty. There’s no mileage limitation in year one and the warranty also covers any mechanical fault caused by a manufacturing defect.
• 12 year anti-corrosion and perforation warranty*
As well as the mechanical warranty, every new Toyota passenger car has a 12-year anti-corrosion and perforation warranty. The cover protects against rust perforation affecting sheet metal body panels as a result of a manufacturing fault and there’s no mileage limit.
• 3 year paintwork and surface rust warranty
We also offer a 3 year unlimited mileage cover protects against defects and surface rust as a result of a manufacturing defect.
• Extended care for Hybrid vehicles
On top of the generous 5 year or 100,000 mile Hybrid Battery Warranty, customers can benefit from a Hybrid Battery extended warranty. After its initial 5 year warranty and as long as a Hybrid vehicle completes an annual Hybrid Health Check at an authorised Toyota Service Centre, the hybrid Battery system is warranted up to 10 years with no mileage limitations.
• The Toyota Extended Warranty
The benefits of a Toyota Extended Warranty go well beyond the obvious, and make most aftermarket warranty packages look like they are lacking something! Not only does the warranty cover parts and repairs, it also helps keep you on the road if there is a problem with your Toyota. If you can’t drive your car because a part has failed you can claim up to five days’ car hire to a maximum of £45 per day (including VAT) after the first 24 hours.
The Extended Warranty also entitles you to hotel expenses if the repair or replacement of a protected part takes more than 24 hours from arrival at a Toyota Dealer and you are more than 20 miles from your home, paying up to £150 (including VAT) towards one night’s accommodation, including breakfast.
The Toyota Extended Warranty also covers you against unexpected repair bills following an MOT failure. As long as the vehicle is repaired and passes, your Extended Warranty will pay for repairs or replacement of covered parts including labour, up to the vehicle’s purchase price. All you have to pay is the original MOT test fee and the first £10 of any repair costs.
