Exeter Retain Play-Off Chance With Big Home Win
Exeter could still make the end of season play-offs in the Gallager Premiership after the Vertu Motors-backed side stormed to victory against Harlequins at Sandy Park.
Founded as Exeter Rugby Club back in 1871, the team has been known as the Exeter Chiefs since 1999 when it was rebranded as the sport moved into the professional era.
Having gone close to reaching the top flight numerous times, the Chiefs made it the Premiership for the first time in 2010 after beating rivals Bristol in the Championship play-off.
The team would go on to secure two championship titles across an impressive spell where it reached the play-off final for six successive seasons, whilst a dramatic 31-27 win against French side Racing 92 saw the team lift the Heineken Champions Cup for the first time in 2020 to complete a league and cup double.
Having outgrown its previous home at the County Ground, Exeter Chiefs moved to Sandy Park on the edge of the city, with the new stadium having been expanded since then to nov provide space for more than 15,000 fans.
The ground is also used beyond rugby for a range of non-sporting activities, with it becoming known in the wider area as an award-winning conference and banqueting centre.
Vertu Motors branding appears in four corners of the ground, as well as on the big screen.
The Community Chiefs programme kicked off in 2008 with a focus on working to enhance the local area and benefit every individual it comes into contact with.
Various programmes aimed towards education, participation, inclusion and health and wellbeing are now accessed by thousands of people every year as the club engages with local groups, schools and colleges.
The club also operates the Exeter Chiefs Foundation, which was founded back in 2011 and has since gone on to raise more than £2.5 million to benefit various groups and organisations in the surrounding area.
